Who made a Cameo this weekend?

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

Rock Star Supernova winner Lukas Rossi rocked the venerable South Beach club. As you recall, after winning the reality show in 2006, Rossi rounded out the quartet comprised of Tommy Lee of Motley Crue, Jason Newsted of Metallica, and Gilby Clarke of Guns ’N’ Roses. Not sure how well the album sold, but I’ve got the pics of Rossi flying solo.

The 4th Annual Premios Juventud Awards on Univision took place last week.

The only awards show on Spanish-language television that celebrates the preferences of this country’s young Hispanics, "Premios Juventud 2007" gave awards in 27 unconventional categories. Among the night’s biggest winners were international pop mega-sensation RBD, with five statuettes ("I Hear Them Everywhere," "CD to Die For," "My Favorite Concert," "Best Ballad," and "Favorite Pop Artist"), Puerto Rican reggaeton superstars Daddy Yankee and duo Wisin y Yandel tied with three awards each, Colombian singer/songwriter Shakira, who received two awards ("Best Moves" and "My Idol") and motion picture/recording artist Jennifer Lopez who also received two awards for "She’s Got Style" and "Girl of my Dreams." Other winners included the popular singer Alejandro Fernandez ("Favorite Regional Mexican Artist") who also was awarded a special 15th Anniversary award, bachata artists Aventura ("Favorite Tropical Artist) and Mexican supergroup Mana ("Favorite Rock Artist"). In Sports, Mexican track and field phenom Ana Guevara ("Most Electrifying Girl Jock") and countryman soccer star Rafael Marquez ("Most Electrifying Guy Jock") each received statuettes.

The I’ve got some exclusive pics.

Miami Gets Even More Warped

Friday, July 20th, 2007

warped_kickoff.jpg

The Vans Warped Tour arrives in Miami this weekend, with the all-day music festival taking over Bicentennial Park. The traveling festival features plenty of bands and even more merchandise, but based on this photo from the 2007 kickoff concert last month it is pretty rockin’. Better yet, South Floridians who give blood may get a free backstage pass … Read this blog for more information.

Mika Comes Out…

Saturday, June 16th, 2007
Mika

To perform at Studio A tomorrow night promoting his album Life in Cartoon Motion. Sadly, no big scoop regarding the budding pop star as he refuses to remain anything but ambiguous regarding his seemingly apparent sexuality.

The Herald recently caught up with Mika and learned that the last time he was in town to perform:

His meager crowd encompassed a handful of publishing people, some musicians, and my grandmother and my great aunt and my Lebanese relatives, my Miami hipster friends, a tiny selection of people from every scene in Miami.’

I have no doubt that tomorrow’s show will be a gay ’ol time.

Here’s the singer’s video for Grace Kelly to tide you over until he performs it live.

Nelly Furtado Gets “Loose” and “Promiscuous” in Miami

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

The Grammy award winning pop singer was in south Florida kicking off her summer tour to promote her third album, “Loose.” Furtado performed at Nelly_Furtado__s_Kickoff_Tour_After_Party_at_Mansion___May_30__2007_I.jpgHard Rock Live on Wednesday followed by an after party at Mansion’s International Wednesday party.

Apparently, Miami inspired Furtado so much, she’s using native vegetation as a setting for her stage show and has laced the production with “white linen palm trees.”

Unfortunately, I was unable to catch the show, but Evelyn McDonnell of the Miami Herald did and she thought the “show was curiously lacking in energy.” Oh, well, I’m still jammin’ to “Promiscuous.” These photos are exclusive shots of Furtado having her cake and eating it too!Nelly_Furtado__s_Kickoff_Tour_After_Party_at_Mansion___May_30__2007_III.jpg
