Miami On TV: CSI Miami

Actor David Caruso attends

The cast of CBS’ CSI Miami took the show on the road to promote the set in Miami but not actually filmed here series to Tokyo this week.  Apparently this is the most watched show in the world as it is syndicated more than any other show.  I haven’t  made up my mind if this is a good thing or not.

Mika Kano, actor David Caruso and Kyoko Kano attend

Miami on TV: A Preview of Cane

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Cane stars television legend Jimmy Smits and focuses on the trials and tribulations of a family of South Florida sugar barons. The first preview gives promising glimpses into the show, which looks like more than just a typical rich soap opera with its political story lines and adoption premise. This second preview clip from CBS seems to be more about sugar v. corn as the ideal ethanol source than sexy soap stuff, but the underlying political references and family tensions somehow makes that heady subject sexy and entertaining. Bottom line: we endorse watching Cane, which premieres on September 25th at 10 p.m. Miami time.

Miami Ink’s Chris Nunez Talks Miami Nightclubs

Love Hate Lounge/Photo Via website

Miami is the ultimate location shoot for TV shows this season. TLC’s Miami Ink is about a Miami Beach tattoo parlor and the life and times of the colorful staff. Chris Nunez, part of the show’s ensemble is a co-owner of Miami’s latest night club, Love Hate Lounge. TV Buddy caught up with the artist:

Located in South Beach, Miami Florida, Love Hate Lounge features tattoo designs inspired by Miami Ink artists, Ami James and Chris Nunez. It is described as a relaxed bar with a variety of drinks that conveys a fun atmosphere where people can enjoy hits from the 90’s, hip hop, rock and a mix of top 40.

“Well we wanted to make it kind of a club house, the kind of place we would like to hang out a place for ourselves, we go we kick back we have drinks and the name comes from the fact that you love what you do but some times you hate doing it. So totally a bitter sweet thing,” he said.

Intended to make Miami nightlife a little edgier, Love Hate is open to all types of people; however, it isn’t the type of place that allows unruly and wild behavior.

I love Miami Ink and the club sounds awesome. Drop me a line if you’ve been there.

Celebs on South Beach This Weekend …

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

… were non-existent, it seems, as everyone who was anyone was in Vegas for the MTV Video Music Awards. I never thought I would see a day when 451 Press’ photo service would not provide us with some lovely celebrity news South Florida, but between the VMA’s and the Toronto film festival we seem to be SOL on celeb sighting news.

But never fear, when you have Miami celeb news … Danny DeVito is near. He appeared on the premiere of The View last week to plug his South Beach restaurant and his various business ventures including the launch of his own limoncello line (the beverage he was supposedly drinking when he appeared drunk on The View last year). Winnie has a rather scathing review of his decidedly unfunny appearance here.

Miami on TV: Burn Notice

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Miami On TV Logo1956-Philco-Brochure2 copyTime for another edition of Miami on TV.

Seems every producer in Hollywood has re-discovered Miami and south Florida as the perfect local to base a show. And the creators of USA Network’s Burn Notice are no different. Premiering commercial free tonight at 10 PM, the series setup seems a bit original: a CIA agent Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) has been “burned” and put on “notice”. We learn almost from the start that a burn notice is CIA lingo blacklisted. Since he can’t work as a spy anymore, Western:

returns to his hometown of Miami without money and tries to find out why he’s been burned. In the meantime, he uses his skills and training to help people who can’t get help from the police.

Michael is joined by Fiona, played by Gabrielle Anwar– she danced the tango with Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman – an ex-IRA operative who also happens to be an ex-girlfriend; and Sam, played by Bruce Campbell, a washed-out military intelligence contact who’s being used by the feds to keep tabs on Michael.

The show is actually filmed in Miami, unlike Showtime’s Miami based show Dexter.

“We are thrilled to be shooting on location in Miami,’’ said Leslie Oren, senior vice president of publicity and corporate communications for Fox Television Studios. “The city is a character in Burn Notice, too, and it has been amazing to get to harness the authentic flavor and beauty of Miami throughout production.’’

Eight of the planned 13 episodes have been filmed. The exciting thing for south Floridians is that in:

three months of working in Miami-Dade, the show has spent about a quarter of a million dollars just on lumber, supplies and food. The city also figures that close to 200 people in Miami-Dade and Broward counties have been employed to work in some capacity on Burn Notice.

Here’s hoping to a long run.

Miami on TV: Top Chef

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

Miami On TV Logo1956-Philco-Brochure2Time for another edition of Miami on TV.

Tonight is the premier of the Bravo network’s reality show,Top Chef which takes place this season on Lincoln Road.
According to Bravo Top Chef 3 Miami

offers a fascinating window into the competitive, pressure-filled environment of world-class cookery and the restaurant business at the highest level. The heat is on in Miami as the competing chefs live and breathe the high-pressure lifestyle that comes with being a master chef, and each week someone is asked to “pack up their knives” and go home.

The show kicked off the premier week Sunday on Lincoln Road with free food from some notable restaurants lining the strip.

While its debatable TV needs another reality program, this one is among the best and SoBe is always a great backdrop for shows filled with drama. Head here to keep track of this show episode by episode.

Check out a preview here.

Miami on TV: Miami Ink.

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Time for another edition of Miami on TV.Miami On TV Logo1956-Philco-Brochure2 TLC’s reality series Miami Ink returns for season 2 tonight at 10:00 PM. Located at 1344 Washington Ave, the Miami Inc. Tatoo studio is Miami’s most famous place to get a tat’ after the success of season 1. The show follows the professional and personal lives of artists Ami James, Chris Nunez, Chris Garver, Darren Brass along with apprentice Yoji Harada in and out of the studio through their drama filled lives. I don’t personally have a tattoo, but if I do ever overcome my fear of needles, these Miami artists are the only ones I would call. Here’s a clip from Season 1.
