    South Floridians Like Their Ebay

    Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

    logoEbay_x45

According to Scarborough Research, 26% of all south Florida adults who surfed the web shopped ebay. Who’s shopping the most? Residents of Charleston, WV. Almost half (44%) of all adults who logged on last month shopped ebay. The Southern cities of Lexington, KY; Memphis, TN; and Knoxville, TN, are also leading eBay markets, with 40% of Internet users in these locales using the site during the past month. Jacksonville, FL residents made up 33%.

“Many of the market areas where eBay ranks highly include more rural counties, so Internet shopping may provide a convenient way for consumers who live in more outlying areas to satisfy their retail needs,” said

Gary Meo, senior vice president, Internet services, Scarborough Research. “Utilizing the Internet — a global medium — to target and engage consumers locally is considered a top priority among leading Internet companies. Local information that clues in to the unique lifestyles, demographics, retail patterns and media habits of Internet users is useful to any brand seeking to expand its business online through local targeting.”

So it’s just not me. Good to know.

    Friday, August 3rd, 2007

    11603855451press82200794751PM

Via Contact Music, singer Amy Winehouse and hubby Blake Fielder-Civil are house hunting in the area.

Sources claim the city holds a lot of importance for the couple because it’s where they first fell in love. An insider tells British newspaper the Sun, "They love Miami, it has this draw for them. Amy is romantic and it is a special place for her because that is where they got married. It is ideal."

A celebrity moving to Miami, we can never have too many.

Macy’s and South Beach Together Again

    Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

    img1

The venerable department store has been closed the last four months while the store became more SoBe appropriate. Via the Herald.

Customers will find a store with a design that reflects South Beach’s Art Deco history and an upgraded, contemporary mix of merchandise.

For the first time, the South Beach Macy’s will feature apparel brands like Lacoste, Ed Hardy, Paris Hilton and Michael Kors. The assortment also includes Chanel cosmetics, Coach handbags, Calvin Klein shoes and Betsy Johnson accessories. This will be the first Macy’s in Florida to offer Bobbi Brown cosmetics.

It’s an improvement that was long overdue. The store, which opened in 1953 as Burdines, has failed over the years to keep pace with the changing face of South Beach as the area evolved from a retiree haven to the destination of the hip and trendy.

’’We decided to invest in Miami Beach because of the changing demographics and the income growth,’’ said Julie Greiner, chairman and chief executive of Macy’s Florida. “In upgrading the store, we felt we could grow our business both with the tourists and the residential population.’’

Greiner declined to discuss the cost of the renovations, which included relocating almost every department in the 91,118-square-foot store.

There will be a VIP reception tonight and the store opens to the general public 10 AM Saturday.

    Shuttered

    Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

    Via NBC6:

Seaview Industries filed for chapter seven last week in federal court. The company has been under scrutiny since hurricane Wilma in 2005, when several customers claimed they put down deposits for shutters and received nothing.

Seaview has been around a long time and it is sad to see greed and/or incompetence lead to their downfall leaving so many people stranded in the middle of hurricane season.
