The venerable department store has been closed the last four months while the store became more SoBe appropriate. Via the Herald.
Customers will find a store with a design that reflects South Beach’s Art Deco history and an upgraded, contemporary mix of merchandise.
For the first time, the South Beach Macy’s will feature apparel brands like Lacoste, Ed Hardy, Paris Hilton and Michael Kors. The assortment also includes Chanel cosmetics, Coach handbags, Calvin Klein shoes and Betsy Johnson accessories. This will be the first Macy’s in Florida to offer Bobbi Brown cosmetics.
It’s an improvement that was long overdue. The store, which opened in 1953 as Burdines, has failed over the years to keep pace with the changing face of South Beach as the area evolved from a retiree haven to the destination of the hip and trendy.
’’We decided to invest in Miami Beach because of the changing demographics and the income growth,’’ said Julie Greiner, chairman and chief executive of Macy’s Florida. “In upgrading the store, we felt we could grow our business both with the tourists and the residential population.’’
Greiner declined to discuss the cost of the renovations, which included relocating almost every department in the 91,118-square-foot store.
There will be a VIP reception tonight and the store opens to the general public 10 AM Saturday.
