What a Gas…

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

Today is the day that you flex-fuelers out there can purchase ethanol blended gasoline in Miami. Via the Post:

The UGas station on 210 N.W. 79th Ave. will sell the E85 - for 85 percent ethanol, 15 percent gasoline - beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday for 85 cents a gallon for the first two hours.

After that, it will sell for about 15 or 20 cents cheaper than regular unleaded gas, the station’s owners said. The fuel can be used only in so-called flex-fuel vehicles. It would damage regular engines.

There are only about 11,000 flex-fuel vehicles in the Miami area, officials said. UGas hopes to make a success of the business by selling to flex-fuel fleets.

I like the development. Now, if only more was being done to prevent global warming.

Calling All Naked Bike Riders!

Friday, June 8th, 2007

Well that’s the call “organ”izers of World Naked Bike Ride day are making for south Floridians for tomorrow’s event. All those interested should hop on their bikes, get over to Lincoln Road Mall, disrobe and assemble at the chrome-plated directory, on the traffic median, directly outside Regal Cinemas at 5:30PM with a 6:00 PM departure.

Why ride a bike naked you may ask? Well, other than a unique way to cool off from Miami’s sweltering heat, the event creator, Conrad Schmidt, tauts the international phenomenon as a way to protest our global dependence fossil fuels. Hey with gas prices on average more than $3 bucks a gallon, we should all be riding a bike. Although, most of us, myself included, should not so do naked.

Miami Drivers Voted the Most “Boorish”, Again?!

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

miami-traffic-jpg.jpg

So says Connecticut based Autovantage in their annual “Road Rage” driving survey. For the second straight year, Miami-Dade drivers top the list for being “boorish, aggressive, and dangerous” when behind the wheel.

According to the survey, sixty percent of the respondents said drivers here are “less courteous” than other places.

Where are the best drivers according to the survey? They are are tooling around Portland; Pittsburgh; and Seattle.

I-95 during rush hour is right up there with a tooth extraction, but that doesn’t make us the worst. I’ll take Miami traffic over New York City traffic any day.
